Zack was never one who was good at remembering dates but there were a few things he would remember, Christmas was one of them, his birthday was another and his parents too and the most recent and important in his book was Cloud's birthday. Granted he had forgotten the exact date until about a week ago but that was more than enough time for him to start his plans. He was going to make this the best surprise birthday ever!

Of course his pokemon weren't much help but they were good at distracting Cloud during the week of preparations. Doggo would ask to go outside for walks more than usual while Brodoof would feign being hurt or sick so that Cloud would be the one giving Doggo a walk. While he'd be out Zack and brodoof would work on party decorations with Grim supervising and playing lookout.

When the day of Cloud's birthday arrived, Zack had made sure he was up early and started to decorate their shared apartment. There were streamers all over the place in varying colors of the rainbow and in the living room were a bunch of balloons and a sign that read happy birthday Cloud.

Being up early, Zack had made a simple breakfast of bacon and eggs and even had some coffee waiting for them. He made sure to be as quiet as he could to not wake cloud. When all was set up and ready he went to the bedroom to see the still sleeping birthday boy and climbed into the bed, holding him tight and kissing his cheek.

"Hey Spike, it's time to wake up. You got a big day today."

Despite some of Zack's Pokemon displaying vaguely suspicious behavior, Cloud doesn't suspect a thing. Dogs wanting to go out at any and all times of day or night is really nothing new, and he figured Brodoof might have had allergies or come down with some kind of...pokeflu? Is that a thing? He even suggested outright the other day that Zack could take Brodoof to see Nurse Joy just in case.

"Hm? Mhm." Cloud is not naturally a morning person, which is why he always made sure to have coffee before he was due in for his duties as a trooper. So now, woken up with cuddling, he does the obvious thing: he rolls over, wraps his arms around Zack like he's a huge teddy bear, and starts falling back asleep.

Cloud cuddling him wasn't what he expected and he wasn't going to complain. That smaller frame just always fit perfectly against him and for maybe a good five minutes Zack let them stay like this. Cloud was wrapped perfectly around him and he kept his own loosely around that waist he loved to grab so often. This was bliss and maybe for his own birthday he'd request a whole day of Cloud cuddles but he had a lot planned and it all involved Cloud being awake. His excitement got the better of him and so he tried to wake the other up.

At first Zack tried being gentle, running soothing hands up and down Clouds back as he whispered his name in his ear. He was greeted with nothing but some incoherent mumbles and a Cloud almost as dead to the world as before. His second attempt was different, more physical. He left a kiss on Clouds cheek and waited for a reaction but there was hardly any so he kissed lower at his neck. Cloud in his arms felt right, felt like home. He couldn't help but indulge a little bit with the sleeping man in his arms, licking at the tender flesh before sucking on it. If Cloud didn't want to get up he'd get a hickey instead, a birthday hickey.

Slowly but surely, all this attention drags Cloud little by little into consciousness. It's easy to stay pleasantly half-asleep, though, through Zack's gentle attempts to ease him awake. Okay, maybe more like two-thirds asleep, whatever.

But it gets much harder to keep dozing when Zack shifts to a different kind of attention. Cloud's eyes flutter open and he makes a soft, mildly startled sound.

"Zack? What're you doing?"

Honestly half way through his attack on Clouds neck he forgets why he is even doing this in the first place. Cloud tastes really good and they haven't really done much yet since whatever it is their relationship is. He knows for sure it's somewhere between friends and fuck buddies but he's hoping it leans more towards of a third option of romance.

Clouds sleepy voice distracts him enough to pull away and look at the still sleepy man in his arms. His own lips are a bit swollen but he smiles anyway. "I was waking you up. Happy Birthday Spike!" His arms are still around Cloud's waist and with the way they are laying, Cloud is practically laying on too of him. Zack doesn't mind it in the slightly and gives him a little squeeze. "I made breakfast and coffee for you. Are you hungry?"

"S'a little more than waking me up," Cloud grumbles, amused, but then he blinks. Birthday...right. But he didn't say anything about it to Zack...

"Um...you didn't have to...mmh, yeah, hungry. Thanks. How'd you know?"

"Well I wanted to wake you up a good way." He can't help the mirth in his voice as he speaks. He'd been planning this for awhile and he just wants too see Cloud's face. He hopes he likes it, he really does. He doesn't get up to move Cloud and waits for him to be awake enough.

"Should I grab the food or are more birthday cuddles in order?"

"Good job, then." Still, he ducks his head a bit to hide his face against Zack's shoulder, embarrassed at having been woken up with something like that, even if it's far from unpleasant.

His voice is muffled against Zack when he says, "Nn. Warm. Make the Pokemon get the food."

Listen, if he's gonna be treated like the birthday boy, he's gotta take advantage of it a little.

It's so nice to have cloud so close to him. He's really enjoying this and at the request of the birthday boy he nods and motions for Brodoof and Grim to help get the food.

Brodoof runs off with Grim to help and Cj goes along with them. While Cloud stays curled up against him Zack presses more kisses to him, one to his neck and then nibbles on his ear. "What else can I get the birthday boy?" Zack's voice holds a promise there, a promise for that though is for Cloud to find out.

A little shiver runs down Cloud's spine as Zack finds his way to his ear. Wow, that...that feels good. Zack's never done anything like this before. Is this part of his birthday gift?

Almost as if Zack's reading his mind, he asks what else, but Cloud doesn't immediately think that's actually what he means. "Hrm...uh, coffee?" He turns his head a bit to peek up at Zack with one eye. "You sound like you already got something in mind, though."

Zack's hands trail down to Cloud's side and he leaves another kiss on his neck before pulling away to bury his face in that lovely blond messy hair. IT even smells like sunshine and he's just so happy to have Cloud here with him in this place right now and to be there for his birthday.

"I could eat you up for your birthday but then we'd never get to do anything else. Coffee sounds good though. I can get you some." He peeks out of the mess of hair and kisses Cloud's cheek, trying to calm his own breathing from getting too excited. It's hard to remind himself he has to slow down, it's his Cloud but not exactly. This one is still young like when they first met and isn't used to so much physical affection from him. Not that Cloud got much when they were on the run but...that was different.

"Mind if I get up to at least get the coffee? I don't trust them with hot liquids to carry."

Cloud's not entirely sure what Zack means by 'eat you up,' but it sounds kind of exciting. He may not be used to this much physical affection from Zack (or anyone), but ever since the first time Zack kissed him here in Johto, he certainly hasn't been complaining.

Coffee is also good, though, and Zack clearly has plans for his birthday, so he sighs and reluctantly lets go of Zack. "Fiiiine."

Once he is free of Cloud Zack sits up and gives Cloud a quick kiss on the lips, letting his big hand ruffle the younger man's hair before he gets up and out of bed. He heads to the kitchen before Cloud can get there and makes them both a cup of coffee. He doesn't know how Cloud takes his but Zack likes his with tons of sugar and milk so that's how he makes his.

When Cloud emerges from the bedroom he's still so sleepy and Zack has to put his drink down so that he can easily scoop the other man into his arms and hold him. Man he really loves how Cloud fits in his arms. "Birthday boy! He emerges!"

A half-hearted mumble of a protest is all the response Zack gets to his hair-ruffling, before Cloud buries his face in the pillow again. He dozes a bit as he listens to the sounds of Zack puttering around in the kitchen, but when the smell of fresh coffee wafts into the bedroom, he finally drags himself out of bed.

--only to find himself lifted off his feet mid-yawn before he even has a chance to investigate that coffee. "Wha--hey! Zack, c'mon, put me down..."

Listen, it's not that Cloud doesn't like it when Zack holds him, but doing it like this is just embarrassing! A reminder of how small and weak he still is.

"Aww how come? I love holding you! It's probably one of my favorite things to do with you." There are many other things Zack loves doing with Cloud but this is just one of them for sure. He does listen to Cloud's annoyance and does put him down but not before a tight squeeze and another kiss to his cheeks. Will Zack ever stop kissing Cloud? Probably not anytime soon or ever.

He does go and gives Cloud his black coffee, pointing to the milk and sugar if he wants to add some to his and then grabs his own mug and takes a happy sip. "Fresh coffee...not sure how you like it though so please fix it up how you want it."
